Why do we read YA Fantasy, even when we are no longer Young Adults?

Let me be honest with you, when I entered the world of YA Fantasy, I really doubted whether it was something for me. Not the fantasy part, because I already loved reading fantasy before that.

When you read a book, no matter what genre it is, the most beautiful thing is that you take a break from real life. But when you read fantasy, you don’t just leave this world behind; you almost fly away from it, with a fluttering feeling in your stomach and the thought: “Where will I end up next?”

When I first discovered the YA Fantasy genre, I thought the stories might be too simple or childish. Maybe the writing style would disappoint me as well.

But then again, we love books, we love reading, and what we love most is adventure.

So why not just give it a try?

I think that when you look back at your life and the decisions you have made, there are always a few that stand out. Decisions that have changed your life. For me, one of those decisions was discovering YA Fantasy.

Now you might think: “Yes, I have that too, but why?”

For me, it is about the feelings. And feelings have no age: happiness, fear, sadness, love... you name it.

Feelings remain, regardless of your age. No matter how many years you have walked this world, we continue to feel them.

For me, YA Fantasy is a mixture of discovering new worlds, connecting with characters whose feelings we often share, and... the feeling of flying away to unknown worlds, where 17-year-old characters and ancient elves or immortal demons discover that age doesn’t really matter.

It is the feelings...
