‘Epic War’ or would you rather step into a ‘Magical Tea Room’?

I have the feeling that the fantasy genre is growing older right along with me, but that could be a coincidence. Actually, no, because I don’t believe in coincidences, but that’s beside the point.

Where I used to want to read about war and battles, about conflict and that ‘they’re never going to solve this’-feeling, I now find myself leaning towards a different theme.

I still read fantasy, of course, but these days I’d rather step into a world where conflicts are kept to a minimum and war? Belongs to the history of their planet.

And when I look at the books I can buy these days, or rather, how large the selection of books with these kinds of themes has become, I don’t think I’m the only one.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy a worldwide conflict, one that makes me feel while reading that everything is lost.

But afterwards, I’d like to step into the local tea room and take a little time to quietly recover.
